A slow-draining drain is often the first sign of a developing blockage.
Water draining away more and more slowly can be caused by a build-up of dirt, soap residue, hair or fat in the drain pipe.
By acting in time, you can prevent the drain from becoming completely blocked.
What can you check yourself?
First check where the problem lies:
- Is only one drain running slowly?
- Do several drains have the same problem?
- Do you hear bubbling noises from the drain?
- Is there an unpleasant smell coming from the drain?
For a local blockage, you can try:
- Cleaning the drain.
- Carefully cleaning the trap (U-bend).
- Flushing the drain with warm water.
Use chemical drain cleaners with caution. They can damage pipes and sometimes make repair work more difficult.
